| E. S. Barbour, originator of
the Detroit Stove Company, built this 1891 three-story stone mansion.
With its carved designs and detailed workmanship, it is a work of
art in itself, a testament to the period in which it was built.
Over the years there were many owners. Various interior
renovations, and minimal exterior repairs were performed on the building. A
private owner decided to move his business to this location and Chezcore, Inc.
was to be given the task of completely renovating the interior and restoring
the exterior of the structure.
Interior renovations and exterior restoration included:
-
New wood flooring
-
Marble flooring
-
Ceramic tile
-
Carpeting
-
VCT tile flooring
-
Plumbing
-
Electrical
-
Upgrades for the voice and data systems
-
Existing steam heat system repair
-
New "ductless" air conditioning system
-
Carpentry
-
Decorative plaster repairs
-
Painting
-
Stained glass restoration
Exterior Restoration occurred throughout the building exterior
facade and included:
-
Stone Replacement
-
Tuck Pointing
-
Stone Consolidation
-
Cleaning
-
Historical Correct Window Replacement
-
Roofing (3 Different Systems)
The exterior restoration was particularly challenging since the
facade is soft sandstone that showed extensive deterioration over the years.
All four chimneys were restored to various degrees, with one chimney completely
dismantled and rebuilt.
Throughout the facade the defective stone units were removed,
back-up masonry stabilized, and new stone units fabricated and installed. This
matched the "rock face" profile and gave the building back its original look.
New and existing stone units were integrated during the repair process.

All 110 windows were replaced with new historically correct windows,
which were 15 different sizes.

There were repairs to three different types of roof systems that included clay
tile restoration, a new asphalt shingle system, and a new rubber roof system.
Also, copper gutters, downspouts,
|
| ridge caps, hips, valleys, and chimney
saddles, were either repaired or replaced with new copper. Chezcore, Inc. acted
as the Construction Manager and General Contractor on this project, as well as
self-performing all of the exterior masonry restoration.
